Tom and I met in Sister Carlissa's first grade class.  I am so thankful that it was so easy to ask he and our parents to go to eachother's homes.  Tom thought it would be good to play soccer, so we did!  Mrs. Seper was so nice to have a birthday party for us classmates.  Their kitchen had bench seating, were we would scoot around with his sisters and parents to come and go.  Our parents began having faimly home and yard parties, with all of our siblings and faimly dog.  Recently when I watched "Born Free" I recalled asking Tom to join me at the the show.  We othertimes saw "Thomasina", "Heidi", some Mexican ranch film (which I can sing a little of the song still), at the Crest Show.  I would rabbit hunt with his Dad and mine.  They bought male and female trained beagles. Often in the coldest winter days, I carried the warm bunnies Dad was bring home for us to eat. Tom and my friendship continued well thru 5th grade, then my Boy Scouts committment was demanding.  Tom and I went to the Muni when we were in our 40's.  I would call him now and then, throughout life.  I asked him to join me for the all IHM class party maybe 7 yrs. ago. He looked very tan and dapper.  He liked to tell me that he travelled to Florida.  Sometimes I would call his parents.  IHM Father Aaron said some days Tom had a lot to say.  The IHM staff gave Tom our memorial 50th reunion cup, which he really liked.

I wanted to visit the day after Christmas, but the retirement center front desk man called up to Tom, who did not feel up to the visit.  He was in hospice, a couple doors down from his Dad.  His Dad told me Tom's sisters were taking care of him, and that George hired a girl to help.  With the good graces of Fr. Aaron, our faith, his family he passed to his next life.

I am grieving still, so we must have been very close.  I was so lucky that God gave me a boyhood friend.
